On July last year, in Hoi An, I got acquainted a pretty girl. Thanks to this friend, I had explore many interesting things to do in Hoi An ancient town. In this article, I would like to share with you the things to do in Hoi An that I most like. It always be the memorable moments when traveling in Hoi An.

1. Going for a walk at night

How an idyllic feeling when you walking on the street and enjoys the evening quiet scene among the ancient houses and colorful lanterns. It’s like you’re straying into a Gala of the Light. A picture combined the beauty of ancient architecture with the bustle of the modern life. The most beautiful place where along the Hoai River, a lot of flower garlands and the color streaks is glittering on the water. But to me, Hoi An is only beautiful when without visitors and the tourist services. When this ancient town getting most peaceful, without crowd, noisy, hustle.

2. Dropping lantern

Aside from sightseeing, you can be part of for the gala of light on the riverside. Dropping lanterns on Hoai River is one of the things to do in Hoi An you should try. From your hand, the tiny lanterns sparkling and floating on the river carry the desire of luck to family and relatives. Besides the lantern, flower garlands also the features of Hoi An ancient town.

3. Eating Cao Lau

Cao Lau is a specialty dish that anyone should try when traveling in Hoi An. The origin of Cao Lau come from Chinese. In the Vietnam language, that’s the quite interesting name. Cao Lau means high-floor house. The traders arrived at Hoi An to trading, they ate this dish on the high floor. They eating and keep watch out their goods placed on the street below, this led to the name of this dish.

This dish looks simple but in fact, it’s quite fussy in raw materials preparations. The rice must be soaked in ash water, which ash must be taken from firewoods at Cu Lao Cham island. Water must be taken from the Ba Le well which built by Cham people thousands of years ago, then the rice milled into powders. Powders are wrapped in fabric and kneaded carefully, then it would be cut into small fibers and steamed in several times, final, the powders are dried into noodles.

The noodle fibers are mixed with bean sprouts, fresh vegetables from Tra Que village, add some slices of barbecued pork and cracklings, then add a little pork sauce …

Now, people no longer eating Cao Lau on the high-floor, they often enjoying it on the sidewalk. Some famous eateries sell Cao Lau in Hoi An such as Ba Be stall located in the market area right on top of the Tran Phu Street, stall at 69 Phan Chu Trinh Street, stall named Hat at the crossroad of Tran Phu and Hoang Dieu. 5. Enjoying sidewalk coffee

Hoi An has two sidewalk cafes quite crowded in the morning. One is the stall of Mrs. Thao, located on the corner at Japanese Bridge and Bach Dang street, most of the customers mainly young people here. On the other side of the bridge, there’s a stall mainly for middle-aged people. At both stalls, you can see the riverside of Hoai River. In the morning before closing time for motor vehicles, you may arrive here, have a coffee cup while eating a bánh mì Hoi An, watching locals people take fishing and farmers transport the goods to the market. What a softly way to start a new day in Hoi An ancient town!

Forbes used to praise this unique and professional service. After about 4 hours, you can get the costume you just ordered. Hoi An’s fashion style quite unique, trendy and prices range from 15 – 100 USD.

7. Sea bathing

Hoi An is famous all over the world with the white sand beaches and the blue sea water under the bright golden sunshine. Cua Dai with long white sandy beaches, the green coconut trees, and clear sea water, but unfortunately Cua Dai has been flooded in mid-October 1014 and is now being recovered. It’s the first house to be recognized as a national monument in Hoi An and also the place where has welcomed many leaders. Besides, there’re the ancient houses such as Phung Hung, Quan Thang … The Fujian and Guangdong assembly hall, where bore a strong resemblance to Chinese architecture. It’s were built by Chinese traders to remember their homeland.

It is a great space for those who love the peaceful beauty of Hoi An ancient town. It’s an enjoyable, meaningful experience.

When traveling in Hoi An, I love walking in the rain. Many people not interested in walking in the rain but perhaps in Hoi An, it’s an exception. No longer the bright yellow of the sunshine, Hoi An in rainy days bring very own beauty, different from sunny days, like a Venice of the East.
